Evie performs this song on I Went to the Woods!
The predator eats the prey, the predator eats the prey,
High-ho it’s nature’s way the predator eats the prey.
The mantis eats the moth that was munching on your cloth…
The cat eats the mouse that snuck into your house…
The snake ate the frog that was hiding by the log…
The robin ate the worm as it wiggled and squirmed….
Have your students suggest further verses. It is a great way to see if they
do understand predator/prey relationships. (They don’t have to rhyme.)
You can also create a food chain by building with the mantis eating the
moth, the frog eating the mantis, the snake eating the frog, …
This becomes a memory challenge for younger students and they have
another tool to use to understand how everything is connected.
